- BCCS
is an independent charitable company
- We are
set up to provide a Multi-Faith Chaplaincy service to all court users
(including people of faith or with no faith) irrespective of race,
culture, creed, special needs or sexual orientation.
- Two
part-time Chaplains are now training 20 volunteers from the various
faith and secular groups. The Volunteers will take up station in January
2010
- Our
service is for all who use the building (between 850 - 1150 per day)
and includes: defendants, victims, witnesses, families & supporters,
prosecutors, advocates, Legal Advisers, Ushers, court admin &
security staff
- Bradford
Magistrates deal with approx 32,000 criminal cases p.a. and a significant
number of defendants are not represented
- There
is also a Coroner's Court on site. HM Coroner deal with approximately
5,000 deaths each year which cannot certified by a Doctor. Approximately
500 require a full inquest
- We believe
the service will benefit individual court users and the whole community.
- Our
president Lord Kamlesh Patel is quoted as saying "I believe this
is an invaluable, innovative and much-needed service in Bradford."
